Open Channel is the Stockholm public access TV channel accessible to 350.000 cable households in the Capital of Sweden - 24 hours a day with a government granted must carry status.

Open Channel in Stockholm is a non-profit organization established 1993 funded by memberships and transmission fees. Commercials are not allowed in programs. Programs are produced by 65 member organizations (NGO's) and broadcast every day.

2006 the Open Channel broadcasted a total of 3.600 hours of program.

The studio and HQ of Open Channel is located in central Stockholm in The Citizen House Medborgarhuset.

Open Channels also operates in fourteen other citites in Sweden. Open Channel Stockholm is a member of the National Association for Open Channels (Riksförbundet Öppna Kanalen - Network Open Channels)

Open Channel is FREE TELEVISION as programs are not confined to the rules governing the national public service television or the private commercial channels. Open Channel is dedicated to the fight for the freedom of speech offering citizens to produce programmes and run a local TV station on their own terms. Open Channels in Sweden will be a dynamic part of the growing multicultural society offering especially young people a cultural and political arena as well as finding new means and ways to make television.

Open Channel is a part of a growing worldwide movement of citizens promoting democracy through free media access. An European organization for Community Access Television is launched; Open Channels Europe

PROGRAM EXCHANGE: Open Channel is on the Information Highway on a local and global basis exchanging ideas and programs with committed organizations and people. Government-run or commercial television will not work in this context. Open Channel Stockholm also broadcast programs produced by non-commercial stations in other cities and countries.
